Tiangong International Deeply Engages in Fusion Industry Events, Breaking Through Key Material Industrialization for Nuclear Fusion with Powder Metallurgy Technology

Date:2026-08-11

On July 30, Tiangong International attended the First General Assembly's Second Council Meeting of the Anhui Fusion Industry Association, and its subsidiary, Jiangsu Tiangong Xinzhi Materials Co., Ltd., was officially admitted to the association. Shortly thereafter, on August 10, the Jiangsu Provincial Nuclear Fusion Industry Development Symposium was held in Nanjing. As the first enterprise in China to achieve industrial-scale production of powder metallurgy high-boron steel, Tiangong International presented its R&D achievements in key nuclear fusion materials at both industry events, fully demonstrating the technological strength and industrialization commitment of private enterprises in serving major national scientific and engineering projects.

Jiangsu Provincial Nuclear Fusion Industry Development Symposium Held in Nanjing

At the Jiangsu Provincial Nuclear Fusion Industry Development Symposium, Tiangong International provided a systematic report on its R&D progress in nuclear fusion materials. The company's primary focus is on "powder metallurgy high-boron stainless steel for neutron shielding and vacuum vessel structures." To address the core challenges of conventional casting and forging processes under high boron content—such as composition segregation, microstructural inhomogeneity, and hot-working cracking—Tiangong International adopted a technical route of "high-purity melting → large-tonnage gas atomization powder production → hot isostatic pressing for near-fully dense consolidation." This approach rapidly atomizes the molten steel into fine powder, effectively reducing boride particle size and composition segregation.

To date, Tiangong International has successfully achieved the first domestic industrial-scale development of 304B7 powder metallurgy high-boron steel, with a boron content of 2%, material density exceeding 99.8%, room-temperature tensile strength reaching over 780 MPa, and elongation of approximately 20%. The company is also advancing the development of powder metallurgy high-boron steel with a boron content of 3.2%. This achievement breaks through the traditional technical bottlenecks of insufficient strength and toughness in high-boron steel, filling a domestic gap.

The development of the nuclear fusion industry requires not only major facility construction but also long-term collaboration among materials, processes, and equipment enterprises. Tiangong International is willing to leverage its strengths in high-purity melting, gas atomization powder production, hot isostatic pressing, and high-alloy material manufacturing to work with universities, research institutes, facility builders, and industrial chain partners to jointly advance the engineering verification and industrialization of key materials such as powder metallurgy high-boron stainless steel, contributing to the establishment of a competitive nuclear fusion industrial cluster in Jiangsu.

At the conclusion of the symposium, Zhang Xing, Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, delivered a summary speech. He fully affirmed the capability of Jiangsu-based enterprises in serving major national nuclear fusion projects in the fields of materials R&D and equipment manufacturing, and outlined three areas of support for provincial enterprises to participate in the development of the nuclear fusion industry: first, to establish the Jiangsu Nuclear Fusion Industry Alliance to strengthen exchanges and collaboration among upstream and downstream enterprises in the industrial chain; second, to build a provincial-level science and technology innovation center focused on the nuclear fusion industry to enhance technological innovation and commercialization capabilities; and third, to have relevant provincial government departments take the lead in organizing matchmaking between provincial enterprises and central state-owned enterprises in the nuclear fusion sector, facilitating the implementation of more cooperative projects.

Transitioning from a traditional special steel leader to a high-end materials platform, Tiangong International is accelerating its progress on the strategic track of key nuclear fusion materials, powered by its powder metallurgy technology as a strategic lever.
